Bulgaria is a small Balkan country nestled in Eastern Europe. If you choose to travel there, you will not be disappointed. The capital city, Sofia, is incredibly charming and has a long and complex history with empires, nations, and war. Aside from Sofia, the most sought out attractions in Bulgaria are the beaches. In summertime (June to September), Bulgarian beaches are lively destinations with lots of tourist accommodation, exciting nightlife, and exceptional food - not to mention that life in Bulgaria is inexpensive for Westerners and non-Western alike. People from the neighboring countries such as Romania and Turkey regularly vacation in Bulgaria since its coast on the Black Sea is simply spectacular. In fact, many countries in Eastern Europe know Bulgaria as the land of ‘golden sands.’
Before you go on your trip to Bulgaria, you need to see if you will need a visa to cross the border. You need to know that Bulgaria is a member of the European Union, which means that all EU citizens, as well as a few other nationalities, can enter its territory without a visa for up to 90 days. However, just because Bulgaria is a part of the EU, it does not make it automatically a member of the Schengen Area Agreement. In fact, it is, but its legal and practical implications have not yet been implemented. Note that border checks still happen to this day, even with the supposedly free access membership in the Schengen Agreement offers. However, if you already have a valid Schengen visa, you can enter Bulgaria for no more than 90 days within a 180-day period.
To find out whether or not you need a Bulgaria visa, you can try to read its visa policy - good luck with the Cyrillic or spotty translation! Instead you can use iVisa’s free Visa Checker Tool. We developed this software to let anyone know their visa requirement status. Just select your nationality and choose Bulgaria as your destination and in seconds the Visa Checker displays the information you need. And that is not all. If you happen to require a visa to enter Bulgaria, you will receive a list of available embassies in your country of origin.
We regret to inform you that we do not process Bulgaria visa applications at the moment. We plan to have this option in the future, but until then, we are happy to help you as much as possible. Our free support service is at your disposal 24/7, and our team of visa consultants is ready to help you.
When it comes to visa requirements, the internet can be an excellent resource, however it is not always the most reliable. That is why iVisa recommends that you to call the embassy and ask them about your nationality's status. Internet info should be used as reference only, but we can tell you that you'll need a valid passport even if you do not require a visa. The passport must have at least one blank page for the stamps, and must be valid for at least another 6 months from your planned date of departure from Bulgaria.
Although we cannot process Bulgaria visa applications at the moment, we plan to do it in the future. Until then, we hope that your visa application process at the embassy goes as smoothly as possible.
